Offense Comes Up Short in Long Beach

San Diego softball falls in double header action on Tuesday afternoon

LONG BEACH, Calif. - San Diego softball (6-11) came up short in both games at Long Beach State (2-2) on Tuesday afternoon in double header action.

GAME 1 | San Diego 2, Long Beach State 4
The Toreros got three hits from Rion Simms in a 4-2 loss to the Beach in game one.

Madison Earnshaw (2-5) got the ball to start for San Diego and took the loss. Courtney Rose was a bright spot out of the bullpen throwing four shutout innings, allowing one hit, with no walks and two strikeouts.

In addition to her three hits, Simms accounted for both RBIs in the contest to lead San Diego. Junior AJ Kaiser furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-3 in the contest.

The Toreros were trailing 4-0 in the seventh inning when they first put runs on the board. Simms drove in two runs for San Diego with a single, that scored senior Halle Kyler and freshman Malia Benson. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling just short.

GAME 2 | San Diego 0, Long Beach State 2
The Toreros' offense struggled to find its rhythm as San Diego was shutout by senior pitcher Kellie White in game two.

Courtney Rose (0-4) took the loss in the circle for San Diego. The southpaw went three innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing no walks and striking out three. Freshman McKenna Braegelmann started the ballgame and went three innings, surrendering one run on one hit, walking three and striking out four.

Freshman Amanda Limon led the way offensively for the Toreros, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame.

San Diego did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Toreros went 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the first, when Limon made it into scoring position with one out.

Next up for San Diego is a matchup on Friday on the road at Cal State Fullerton as double header action is set to get underway at noon (PT).
