OMAHA, Neb.—No. 21 San Diego hit .427 as a team with three players recording double-digit kills in a 3-0 sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Toreros (13-4) used an efficient attack, eight blocks and eight aces to defeat the Islanders (14-5) in straight sets 25-13, 25-15, 25-18 on Wednesday morning in the CHI Health Center Omaha.

Thana Fayad led USD with 17 kills, hitting a blistering .536 and finishing with seven digs, three aces and one block for a team-best 21 points.
Roxie Wiblin added 11 kills, hitting at a .370 clip and
Grace Frohling finished with 10 kills, hitting .500 in the match.

Annie Benbow led the way in the back court with 12 digs, while Fayad and Wiblin both added seven digs and the Torero defense held the Islanders to a .179 team percentage.
Gabby Goddard led the way at the net with four blocks (1 solo) and Frohling and
Kylie Pries both added three for the Toreros. Pries also collected five kills on seven swings with no errors to finish with a .714 hitting percentage.

Isadora Terçariol finished with 35 assists, directing the offense to hitting percentages of .419, .536 and .333 in each of USD's three sets.

San Diego jumped out to a quick 16-9 lead in the first set behind nine combined kills from Fayad, Frohling and Wiblin. A 7-1 run extended the lead 23-11 and the Toreros cruised to a 25-13 first-set victory. Fayad collected seven of her 17 kills in the opening frame.

Frohling began the second set with three-straight kills and USD jumped out to an early 9-4 lead. The teams traded points before a 6-1 run gave the Toreros a 19-10 advantage. Kills from Fayad, Pries and Goddard helped propel USD to a 25-15 second-set win and 2-0 lead in the match.

The Islanders kept it close to begin the third set before a 5-0 run, highlighted by two aces from Fayad, gave USD the 9-5 advantage. A&M-Corpus Christi pulled within two at 12-10 but could not come any closer. Another 5-0 run, sparked by three kills from Wiblin, gave the Toreros match point and USD took the set 25-18.

With the win, the Toreros advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in six seasons and fourth-straight year. USD is now set to face No. 11-seed Louisville on Thursday at 9 a.m. (PT) in the CHI Health Center Omaha and the match will be streamed via ESPN3.
