Toreros Drop Two

San Diego softball falls in double header action

SAN DIEGO - San Diego softball (8-17) dropped two to California Baptist (15-21-1) in its first contests since March 21 on Tuesday afternoon at the USD Softball Complex.

GAME 1 | Cal Baptist 6, San Diego 0
The Toreros were not able to score a run against the Lancers in game one on Tuesday and were shut out 6-0.

Sophomore Courtney Rose (1-6) started and took the loss in the circle for San Diego. Freshman Katlin Entrup was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 6.1 innings, surrendering three runs, only one earned, on nine hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

In the batter's box, the Toreros were led by freshman Sofia Delgado, who went 1-for-3 in the contest. The Toreros offense struggled to find momentum as USD didn't manage a runner into scoring position during the contest.

GAME 2 | Cal Baptist 7, San Diego 1
San Diego looked to rebound in game two, getting within striking distance in the sixth inning before falling 7-1.

Lauren Hendrickson went 2-for-3 in the contest to lead the Toreros with a double. AJ Kaiser also put together a noteworthy performance going 2-for-3.

In the circle, Madison Earnshaw (2-7) took the loss in her 10th start of the season. The right-hander went 6.2 innings and gave up seven runs, three earned, on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.

Trailing by three, the Toreros first put a run on the board in the sixth inning. Freshman Malia Benson came across to score the lone run for San Diego off a suicide squeeze from Sophia Bjerk. The Toreros were unable to get any closer, as California Baptist added four runs to their tally in the seventh.

The Toreros will open up conference play on Saturday, April 10 as they play host to Pacific at noon and 2 p.m. (PT).
