SAN DIEGO—Kylie Pries notched career-highs in kills, digs and aces to lead No. 25 San Diego past crosstown rival San Diego State, 3-1, on Saturday evening in Peterson Gym.

The Toreros (5-2) hit .239 as a team, led by Pries with a career-high 17 kills, 11 digs and four aces for a match-high 21.5 points and her first career double-double. After dropping the opening set, USD took down the Aztecs, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-18 to finish the weekend 2-0.

Grace Frohling finished with 15 kills, while
Annika Hester and
Leyla Blackwell added seven and six kills respectively. Hester hit .357 in her second start as a Torero.

Defensively, the Toreros were strong at the net, holding SDSU to a .203 hitting percentage on the night with 15 team blocks. Blackwell notched a season-best nine blocks, including two solo stops and is currently averaging 1.46 blocks per set. Frohling added five blocks (1 solo) and
Gabby Goddard chipped in four block assists.

Isadora Terçariol collected her fourth double-double of the season with 40 assists and 10 digs. In the back court,
Annie Benbow and
Camryn Tastad chipped in nine and eight digs respectively.

San Diego got off to a slow start in the opening frame, hitting .083 as a team. With several scoring runs, the Aztecs built a commanding 19-11 lead. After a timeout, USD strung together four-straight points including two aces from Pries to chip into the SDSU lead. The Toreros rallied again with a serving run by Terçariol to make it 19-22 but were unable to complete the comeback. SDSU took the opening frame 25-20.

The teams traded points to a 13-13 tie to open the second set. San Diego then went on an 8-2 run that included three kills and two more clutch aces from Pries to take the comfortable 21-15 lead. The Aztecs fought off two set points, but USD closed out the frame 25-20 and tied the match at a set apiece.

It was a back-and-forth battle again to begin the third set before six-straight points gave USD the 13-7 advantage. The Toreros built their lead to 23-15 before the Aztecs answered with a 5-1 run of their own to hold off set point but USD closed out the set 25-20 and took the match lead 2-1.

The teams were knotted at 11-11 in the final frame before a 4-1 run gave the Toreros some breathing room. San Diego outscored the Aztecs 8-3 down the stretch to close out the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.

Up next, USD will travel north to Los Angeles to take on USC on Friday at 6 p.m. (PT) and Long Beach State on Saturday at 4 p.m. (PT).
