Women's Basketball Falls to BYU in Tough Battle

San Diego falls short 70-48 in Provo, UT

SAN DIEGO —The Toreros battled hard against the BYU Cougars but fell short 70-48. 

Leading the Toreros' offensive efforts was Harsimran "Honey" Kaur with a career high of 13 points. Other key contributors on offense were Sydney Hunter and Kasey Neubert with eight points each. On offense, the Toreros tallied 11 assists. On defense, San Diego collected 33 rebounds, 16 steals, and three blocks . The Toreros also forced 22 turnovers on the BYU Cougars, two more than their last matchup on January 22, 2022. 

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Kasey Neubert scored the first two points of the game with a layup off the glass. 
  • Erica Martinsen snatched three steals and three rebounds in the first quarter. 
  • San Diego tallied seven steals in the first half. Leading the Toreros was Martinsen with three. 
  • The Toreros collected 16 rebounds in the first half with Sydney Hunter and Erica Martinsen leading with three each. 
  • San Diego collected seven steals in the third quarter. Leading San Diego was Kasey Neubert and Kendall Bird with two steals each. 
  • Kaur scored 9 points in the fourth quarter.

  • Harsimran Kaur set a career high of 13 points. Kaur beat her previous record of two points against Nebraska on November 27, 2021. 

LOOKING AHEAD
The Toreros will return home to play Portland on Thursday, January 27 at 5 p.m. PT at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. San Diego holds a 45-34 record against Portland with a two game winning streak.
