Women's Basketball Couldn't Erase Early Deficit to Gonzaga

Toreros fell short 69-43 to the Zags

SAN DIEGO —The Toreros gave it their all against the Gonzaga Bulldogs but came up short 69-43. 

Leading the Toreros' offensive efforts was Jordyn Edwards with twenty points. Other key contributors on offense were Sydney Hunter with six points and Steph Gorman with five points. On offense, the Toreros tallied eight assists. On defense, San Diego collected 24 rebounds, 14 steals, and one block. The Toreros also forced 25 turnovers on Gonzaga. 

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Steph Gorman hit the first shot of the game, a deep two-pointer in front of the three-point line. 
  • San Diego collected five rebounds in the first quarter. 
  • Harsimran "Honey" Kaur defended the basket with a block in the second quarter. 
  • The Toreros collected five steals in the third quarter. Jordyn Edwards led the team in steals with two. 
  • San Diego outworked Gonzaga and scored 16 points off turnovers. 
  • Jordyn Edwards scored 15 points in the fourth quarter. 

LOOKING AHEAD
The Toreros will travel to the Bay Area for three games against three teams in the WCC. The first team the Toreros will play is the San Francisco Dons on Thursday, February 3 at 6 p.m. PT. San Diego holds a 43-32 all time record against the Dons with a five game winning streak. Their last contest took place on January 8, 2022 and resulted in a 65-56 win under head coach Cindy Fisher
