Men’s Soccer Stuns Gonzaga in 87th Minute

SPOKANE, WA – In the first game of WCC play, Trevor Dillon scored in the 87th minute to propel the University of San Diego men's soccer team over Gonzaga, 1-0.

USD was awarded a corner kick with just over three minutes to play, and Mason Tunbridge sent a bending ball into the box. After multiple deflections and a blocked shot, Dillon sent a rebound to the back of the net.

San Diego is now undefeated in its last seven contests, including three wins and four ties.

USD moves to 3-3-5 on the season, and will return to Torero Stadium to welcome Saint Mary's on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Tunbridge 56th minute, but his left footed shot on a pass from Cesar Bahena was saved by the goalkeeper.
  • Nicklas Clausen sent a low cross across the six in the 71st minute, but Alex Churness' diving attempt was just late for the tap in.
  • Ross Johnstone played a ball ahead to Tunbridge in the 86th minute, and the senior turned and dribbled through three defenders for a golden chance. The Gonzaga keeper barely got a hand on it, and USD was awarded a corner.
