SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's basketball program (4-3, 0-0 WCC) dropped the finale of The Dana on Mission Bay Thanksgiving Classic, falling to No. 15 Arizona (6-0, 0-0 PAC-12), 86-60, on Saturday evening at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Myah Pace led the way with 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting, while
Veronica Sheffey added a career-high nine points in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two sides traded blows early in the first quarter, as Kiera Oakry hit an early three pointer to lock the game at 8-8.
- However, the Wildcats created space with a 10-0 run to end the period, forcing the Toreros into an adjustment.
- Laura Erikstrup and Pace opened the second quarter with a pair of buckets, but the Wildcats weathered the storm.
- While ultimately cutting the lead to five, the Wildcats end the second quarter with another 10-0 run to take a 15-point lead at halftime.
- Pace would attempt to will her side back into the game, as she opened the third quarter with six early points.
- However, the Wildcats continued to answer each run from the Toreros, letting the lead get no lower than 16 in the period.
- A three pointer from Jess Finney and another basket from Pace cut the lead to 14, but the Toreros could not get closer and ultimately lost the game.
TORERO TIDBITS
- San Diego finished with their highest three-point percentage of the season, going 3-for-6 from the field.
- All 13 Toreros saw time on the floor in the game.
