A layup with 1.6 seconds left sent Nicholls (2-4) past the University of San Diego men's basketball team (4-3) in Las Vegas on Saturday, 72-70. Fifth year guard Jase Townsend led USD in scoring with 20 points, making 9-of-15 shots to go along with six rebounds. Senior Marcellus Earlington and graduate Jaiden Delaire each surpassed 1,000 career points in the loss, with Delaire notching 16 points and Earlington adding 13. Graduate guard Eric Williams Jr. secured his fourth double-double in the first six games of the season, ending with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
 

SCOUTING THE LANCERS

After starting 0-2, Longwood has won four of its last five games. The Lancers are averaging over 41 bench points per game, which ranks second in the NCAA. Eight different players are averaging at least 6.6 points per game. Graduate guard Isaiah Wilkins leads the team with 11.3 points per game. Senior forward Leslie Nkereuwem is adding 10.7 points, while junior guard Walyn Napper is scoring 10.6 per contest. Longwood was picked to finish No. 1 in the Big South in the 10-team field. The Lancers return nine letterwinners and 74 percent of their scoring from last season's team that went 15-1 in conference play.
