Grace Frohling Named to 2022 Women's Collegiate National Team

Junior opposite/setter earned All-WCC First Team, AVCA All-Region honors last winter

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Junior opposite/ setter Grace Frohling was named to the 2022 U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team, USA Volleyball announced on Monday morning.

She is one of 38 top college players to be selected to the squad, which will be led by Rob Browning, head coach of the St. Mary's women's volleyball team. Browning has assisted the U.S. Men's National Team at three Olympic Games and has served as a consultant coach for the U.S. Women's National Team over the last four years. 

Along with the WNT Open Program and the WNT Spring Training Camp, the WCNT is an opportunity for the U.S. Women's National Team (WNT) coaching staff to observe and evaluate NCAA athletes with the highest potential. Several former WCNT members are now on the WNT, including 2020 Olympic gold medalists Michelle Bartsch-Hackley, Annie Drews, Chiaka
Ogbogu, Kelsey Robinson and Jordan Thompson.

The 2022 Collegiate National Team will train June 19-25 at the National Team Training Center in Anaheim, Calif. Athletes will train among the best collegiate players in the country, watch the WNT training sessions, study the USA systems, meet with Tokyo 2020 Olympians and be observed by the WNT staff.

Frohling joins Brigham Young's Erin Anderson and Heather Gneiting in representing the West Coast Conference.

Last season Frohling started all 28 matches for the Toreros and led the team with 407 kills (3.95 kills per set), a mark that ranked third in the West Coast Conference.

The Los Angeles, California native tallied a team-leading 35 service aces in addition to her wealth of kills, and her 101 total blocks and 175 digs ranked second and third on the team.

On November 18, 2021 at Saint Mary's Frohling set forth a career performance, totaling 28 kills as she led the Toreros to a 3-1 win.

She surpassed the 20-kill mark for the fifth time last season with a 21-kill afternoon at Pacific on November 20 in USD's final regular-season road game of 2021, a performance that marked the third consecutive match in which she had turned in 20 or more.

She racked up 151 kills in her final 10 regular-season matches of 2021, including 19 at both Gonzaga and Portland (11/4 and 11/6), 21 versus Pepperdine (11/13), 28 at Saint Mary's (11/18), and 21 at Pacific on November 20.

Frohling paced USD's first-round NCAA Tournament matchup on December 2 versus Rice, tying the match high with 15 kills.

Named the WCC Offensive Player of the Week on October 18 after setting then-career highs in kills in successive matches, Frohling was selected to the All-WCC First Team and the AVCA Pacific South All-Region Team last winter.

She is a three-time All-WCC First Team selection (2019, 2020-21, 2021), was a 2019 AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, was named the 2019 AVCA Pacific South Region Freshman of the Year and an AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention, and earned a 2020-21 WCC All-Academic First Team selection after winning the 2019 WCC Freshman of the Year award in addition to being a 2019 WCC All-Freshman Team honoree.
