Softball Falls to BYU, 5-0

SAN DIEGO – Despite a complete game from redshirt sophomore pitcher Courtney Rose, the University of San Diego softball team fell to BYU on Friday, 5-0.
 
After runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively, the Cougars extended their lead with three runs in the top of the sixth.
 
Alexia Torculas, Izzy Owen, Lauren Hendrickson, and Joecellia Roberts each posted hits for San Diego.
 
The Toreros drop to 19-27 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • San Diego led off the bottom of the second with a walk from Lauren Hendrickson and a single from JoJo Roberts, but the next three batters were retired.  
  • Rose allowed just one hit over the first two innings, but BYU got on the board first with an RBI double down the left field line in the top of the third.
  • In the top of the fourth, BYU loaded the bases with no outs. Rose forced a double play, but another run crossed to make it 2-0.
  • The Cougars extended their lead in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs to make it 5-0.
  • Noelle Hee led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk, and Hendrickson singled two batters later. USD later hit a slicing line drive to right field, but it was caught to end the inning.
  • Rose kept BYU off the board in the top of the seventh, but the Toreros went down in order in the bottom half.
TORERO TIDBITS
  • Rose allowed seven hits and four earned runs in seven innings. She struck out two batters.
  • Torculas is batting .293 on the season and leads the team with 43 hits. She is one of three players to start all 46 games (Roberts, Limon).
  • USD committed two errors, while BYU posted none.
  • Hendrickson is 10-of-38 this season (.263).

San Diego will host BYU for a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is schedule for 11:00 AM.
