SAN DIEGO — LMU defeated the University of San Diego softball team on Sunday, 7-4.
Izzy Owen and
Alexia Torculas would both turn in multi-hit games for the Toreros (19-32, 4-7 WCC).
In the circle,
Courtney Rose would come in relief and strike six batters out over the final six innings allowing only one run on six hits.
The Lions (34-14, 11-1 WCC) would use three pitchers in the contest allowing nine hits.
In the top of the first, LMU would bat around sending 11 batters while scoring six runs and adding another in the second.
San Diego would get on the board in the bottom of the third with a Torculas solo bomb to left field.
The rally would continue an inning later when the Toreros would score a pair of runs. Owen would lead the inning off with a single through the right side. A
Noelle Hee walk would push Owen to second.Â
AJ Kaiser would drive Owen in with a single to left and getting pinch runner
Savannah Alarcon to second.Â
Lauren Hendrickson singled down the left field line and went to second on the throw home. Alarcon would score but Kaiser would be thrown out at third.
One home run was not enough for Torculas, on the first pitch of the bottom of the fifth, she launched another salvo over the left field fence for her fifth homer of the season.
That is the way the game would end as the Toreros could not push any runs across the plate.
The Toreros will close out the season next weekend at Santa Clara with a doubleheader Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
