Toreros Fall to No. 4 Oregon State in Corvallis

San Diego baseball drops 12-3 decision at Goss Stadium as part of NCAA Corvallis Regional

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Angelo Peraza launched a homer, Camden Vasquez laced an RBI triple, and Garrett Rennie turned in a solid outing in relief, but San Diego baseball dropped a tough decision to No. 4 Oregon State on Saturday night, falling by a 12-3 margin at Goss Stadium in the NCAA Corvallis Regional.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Beavers struck first with a four-run first inning, doing so via a fielding error that brought in two and a two-RBI triple to make it 4-0.
  • OSU expanded its advantage with a two-run shot in the top of the second, then added another pair of runs in the third with an RBI double and an RBI single for an 8-0 lead.
  • San Diego answered back with the bottom of the third when redshirt sophomore outfielder Camden Vasquez ripped an RBI triple into the right-center field gap to bring home sophomore utility player Angelo Peraza (St. Augustine High School).
  • Vasquez came in to score a batter later on an infield single from sophomore center fielder Dustin Allen, and it was 8-2.
  • The two teams traded runs in the fourth and fifth frames, with Oregon State adding another run with an RBI single to make it 9-2 before Peraza turned on a fastball for a towering home run to deep left field to cut the Beavers' lead to six.
  • San Diego would get no closer, however, dropping a 12-3 decision to OSU after the Beavers added a trio of runs across the contests' last three frames via a throwing error, an RBI single, and a solo homer.
