DENVER — San Diego women's soccer dropped a close decision at Denver in its 2022 season opener on Thursday evening, falling 1-0 to the Pioneers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The contest remained scoreless until the 35th minute, when Denver's Jadyn Goodrich pushed the Pioneers ahead with a goal that was assisted by Sami Feller and Blythe Sales.

TORERO TIDBITS

• Senior goalkeeper Ellyn Casto totaled six saves in the first half.
• True freshman goalkeeper Sophine Kevorkian added another as she pitched a scoreless second.
• Senior defender Malia Walencewicz notched the Toreros' first shot of the game in the 65th minute, true freshman forward Cameryn Maddox chipped in with a shot in the 81st minute, and junior forward Juliet Anawalt closed out San Diego's scoring chances with one in the 89th.
