Women’s Soccer Drops Nail-Biter at Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The San Diego women's soccer program (2-5-2, 0-0 WCC), dropped a tight, back-and-forth affair at Cal Poly (4-5, 1-0 Big West), falling 1-0 on Thursday at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cal Poly were the quickest out of the gate to open the game, outshooting the Toreros 8-2 in the opening frame.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Sophine Kevorkian made four of her five total saves in the first half, holding the Mustangs off the scoreboard.
  • The Toreros came out of the half energized, registering four unanswered shots in the first 15 minutes.
  • Cal Poly's Emily Lieber finally broke the standstill in the 84 th minute, scoring the eventual game winner.
  • Freshman Cameryn Maddox led all Toreros with three shots and played a full 90 minutes for the first time in her collegiate career.
 
TORERO TIDBITS
  • Graduate student Adalee Broadbent played another full 90 minutes, bringing her to 1,371 consecutive minutes played.
  • Kevorkian finished the five game road trip averaging 5.2 saves per game over the five game stretch.
 
UP NEXT
The Toreros have completed their five game road swing and return home to Torero Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 25, as they host Northern Arizona. The match is set for kickoff at 1 p.m., and will be streamed on the WCC Network.
