NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — After a hard-fought series at Santa Clara over the weekend, San Diego baseball (9-12-1, 3-3 WCC) is set to travel to Northridge on Tuesday afternoon for a midweek non-conference matchup against CSUN (13-6, 3-3 Big West) that marks the front end of a two-game home-and-home set between the two teams.

First pitch at Matador Field is set for 3:00 p.m. Live statistics and a live radio stream of the game will be available on GoMatadors.com.

LAST TIME OUT
• San Diego completed a pair of valiant comebacks on Sunday afternoon but could not hang on to secure a series win at Santa Clara, suffering a tough 9-7 extra-innings loss after the Broncos plated three in the bottom of the 11th on a walk-off home run.

• USD erased an early four-run deficit to pull ahead 6-4, then scored once in the top of the 11th to retake the lead at 7-6. The Toreros came within one out of securing the win in the bottom of the ninth, and were two outs away from victory in the bottom of the 11th.

• Every player in the San Diego starting lineup recorded at least one hit.

ALL-TIME SERIES VERSUS CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE
• The Toreros are 29-35-2 against the Matadors all-time, with the two teams' most recent meeting coming nearly 10 years ago today — March 30, 2013 at Fowler Park, a 6-4 San Diego loss.

• USD has lost two straight games to CSUN and most recently defeated the Matadors on March 3, 2023, a 13-3 win at San Diego State's Tony Gwynn Stadium as part of the SDSU Invitational.

The Toreros last defeated CSUN in Northridge on May 24, 2010, a 14-8 decision in San Diego's favor at Matador Field.

FOR STARTERS (PROBABLE)
• Freshman righty Aídan Gonzalez (first name pronounced EYE-DON) will take the mound for USD on Tuesday in what will mark his first career start.

• Gonzalez is 1-0 with a 7.27 ERA so far this season and has recorded 12 strikeouts while walking seven across 8.2 total innings pitched.

• He most recently appeared last Monday (March 20) at California Baptist, throwing just two thirds of an inning while allowing a hit, walking one batter, and striking out two.
• Gonzalez starred in San Diego's second game of the 2023 season (which marked his college debut), preserving a 3-1 USD lead in the top of the seventh  by stranding a pair of runners with two strikeouts and a well-timed ground ball to end the inning.

• His longest outing so far this year came on March 5 at Oregon, w hen he threw two scoreless frames against the Ducks after entering out of the bullpen in the fifth.

• After Gonzalez walked the first batter he faced  that day on six pitches, a 36-minute weather delay due to heavy rain and snow at PK Park paused the contest.

• When it resumed, the freshman set the next three Ducks he faced down in order, then came back out to throw a scoreless sixth.

FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS
• Every player in the San Diego lineup (plus a pinch-hitter) recorded a hit on Sunday at Santa Clara.

• Graduate transfer infielder James Arakawa (2-for-5), sophomore shortstop Justin DeCriscio (2-for-4), junior utility player Angelo Peraza (2-for-6), and freshman infielder/designated hitter Jack Gurevitch (2-for-3) all had more than one.

DECRISCIO STAYS HOT
• Sunday afternoon marked sophomore shortstop Justin DeCriscio's third consecutive two-hit game and extended his hit streak to eight games.

• He leads the Toreros with a .358 (29-for-81) batting average and has hit safely in 19 of San Diego's 22 games so far in 2023.

ALLEN HEATING UP
• After notching two hits on Monday (March 20) at California Baptist and one in each game at Santa Clara (including his first home run of 2023), junior centerfielder Dustin Allen enters Monday's action on a season-high four-game hit streak.

HE GETS ON BASE
• With a pair of hits, a run scored, and two RBIs on Sunday, freshman infielder/designated hitter Jack Gurevitch extended his hit streak to four games and his walk streak to eight games.

• Dating back to March 17 against Pacific, he has hit safely in five of USD's last seven games.

BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK JACKS
• San Diego ripped three consecutive home runs on Saturday afternoon at Santa Clara, marking the first time USD players have homered in consecutive at-bats this season.

• The longballs came when Smith (two-run, right-center), Peraza (solo, left-center), and Sim (solo, over the left-field wall and batting cage) left the yard.

BUILDING BLOCKS
• San Diego held a lead in all three games at Santa Clara this weekend and has been ahead at some point in 18 of its 22 games so far this season.

BEST IN THE WEST (COAST CONFERENCE)
• From the beginning of the 2019 season until now, no team in the West Coast Conference has had a better record than San Diego baseball. Combining their 2019 record (32-21), their abbreviated 2020 totals (12-4), their 33-12 mark in 2021, their 37-20 record in 2022, and their 9-12-1 totals so far in 2023, the Toreros are a conference-best 124-70-1 (.639) in that 195-game span.

• Next best within that timeframe are Gonzaga (116-85, .577), BYU (106-85, .554) and Portland (92-80, .534).
