CORVALLIS, Ore. — San Diego baseball (5-5-1, 0-0 WCC) is set to continue its longest road trip of 2023 this week, traveling north for a Tuesday afternoon matchup with Oregon State (9-2, 0-0 Pac-12).
First pitch at historic Goss Stadium is set for 3:05 p.m. The matchup will be streamed live on Pac-12 Insider, and live statistics will be available on OSUBeavers.com.
LAST TIME OUT
• The Toreros dropped all four games at Oregon over the weekend, falling by scores of 3-2 (Thursday), 4-3 (Friday), 13-0 (Saturday), and 5-1 (Sunday) at PK Park.
• USD held a lead in both of its first two contests opposite the Ducks, something it has done in all but two games so far this season.
ALL-TIME SERIES VERSUS OREGON STATE
• San Diego is 9-8 versus the Beavers all-time, with the two programs' last meeting coming on June 4, 2022 at Goss Stadium, when No. 4 Oregon State handed the Toreros a tough 12-3 loss in the NCAA Corvallis Regional.
• USD last beat the Beavers on March 30, 2013, when it took down No. 2 OSU 13-3 at Fowler Park.
• The Toreros last won at Goss Stadium on May 10, 2010, a 4-1 decision in San Diego's favor.
FOND MEMORIES
• Though San Diego dropped its lone meeting with OSU last year at Goss Stadium, USD's return to the venue should bring back plenty of fond memories for Torero fans.
• As part of last year's 2022 NCAA Corvallis Regional, the Toreros toppled perennial powerhouse Vanderbilt at the historic ballpark, beating the Commodores 3-2 for its first postseason win since 2013 before a packed crowd and a national audience watching at home on ESPNU.
• USD ultimately went 1-2 in the event, dropping its next two matchups to Oregon State (12-3), and Vanderbilt (14-4) in what marked the program's first postseason appearance since 2013.
FOR STARTERS (PROBABLE)
• Junior right-handed pitcher
Ivran Romero is set to make his third start of 2023 and the eighth of his career when he takes the mound for the Toreros on Tuesday afternoon.
• Romero has posted an 11.22 ERA across 5.2 innings pitched this season (three total appearances), striking out five batters against seven walks.
• He most recently appeared on Saturday afternoon at Goss Stadium, throwing two thirds of an innings out of the bullpen (his first such appearance of 2023 following two starts to begin the year) after entering in the fifth while allowing a hit and a walk.
• The San Diego, California native (Poway High School) is one of six Toreros on the 2023 roster with previous experience pitching at Goss Stadium and is one of just two current USD players who have made a start at the venue.
• Romero began San Diego's final game of 2022 on the mound there, surrendering three runs on three hits and two walks to Vanderbilt (June 5) in a single inning of work.
• He was a 2022 All-WCC Tournament Team selection after posting a 4-4 record with a 2.53 ERA in 46.1 innings pitched (23 appearances, three starts). He struck out 44 batters and walked just 16 that year.

• Returned after the break and stranded the runner, then came back out and threw a scoreless sixth to complete a career-high two college innings.
• Has six total strikeouts in just 5.2 innings of work so far this season to begin his college career.

ROAD WARRIORS
• After a seven-game season-opening homestand that saw it go 5-1-1 against Nebraska, Hawaii, and UNLV, San Diego is currently in the midst of its longest road trip of the season, one that spans 11 days, nine games, four cities, three states, and 3,691 miles, comprising the majority of USD's 2023 non-conference schedule.
• The Toreros began the trip this past weekend with four games at Oregon (March 2-5) before continuing north for Tuesday night's midweek matchup at Oregon State.
• After their stint in Oregon, USD will head south for three games in Fort Worth, Texas against TCU at Lupton Stadium from March 10-12.
• One last away contest will await the Toreros when they finally return to California on March 14 — a Tuesday night matchup at UCLA.
BEST IN THE WEST (COAST CONFERENCE)
• From the beginning of the 2019 season until now, no team in the West Coast Conference has had a better record than San Diego baseball. Combining their 2019 record (32-21), their abbreviated 2020 totals (12-4), their 33-12 mark in 2021, their 37-20 record in 2022, and their 5-5-1 totals so far in 2023, the Toreros are a conference-best 120-63-1 (.655) in that 183-game span.
• Next best within that timeframe are Gonzaga (109-82, .570), BYU (103-80, .562) and Portland (83-73, .532).
