Women’s Basketball Falls Short at Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – The San Diego women's basketball program (4-12, 0-3 WCC) were unable to hang on to a halftime advantage, falling 65-54 to Portland (10-7, 2-1 WCC) on Thursday night at the Chiles Center.

Kasey Neubert and Harsimran Kaur each tallied double-doubles of 15 points and 12 rebounds apiece in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After some early back-and-forth action, the Toreros were able to jump out to a lead in the first quarter.
  • The Toreros jumped from a 10-8 lead to a 20-10 advantage, behind five points from Dylan Horton.
  • San Diego continued to expand their lead to a height of 11 in the second quarter, as Neubert and Kaur asserted their will on both ends of the floor.
  • However, the Toreros allowed a 10-2 Portland run to cut their advantage to just three with 3:50 left in the second quarter.
  • Neubert and Kaur were able to push the lead back to 10 in the second quarter and took an eight-point lead into the break.
  • The Pilots would come out of halftime on fire, opening the third quarter with a 13-2 run to take a three-point advantage.
  • Neubert helped tie the game once again and keep the contest within striking distance, by being down 47-43 at the end of the third quarter.
  • San Diego could get the deficit no closer than four with 3:40 remaining, as the Pilots did enough to limit the Toreros to just one field goal over the remaining 3:40.

TORERO TIDBITS
  • With her seventh double-double of the season, Neubert now has the most double-doubles by a Torero in a single season since Patricia Brossmann (10) in 2018-19.
  • Kaur recorded the first double-double of her career and the first double-double by a Torero than someone other than Neubert.
  • In addition, it's the first time the Toreros had two players tally a double-double in the same game since Mar. 16, 2023 against Long Beach State.
