Homestand Concludes with No. 19 Gonzaga, San Francisco

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's basketball program (4-16, 0-7 WCC) concludes a three-game homestand with a pair of contests, welcoming No. 19 Gonzaga (20-2, 7-0 WCC) on Thursday at 6 p.m., before hosting San Francisco (8-12, 4-3 WCC) on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Thursday's game is the 'Play4Kay' game for the program, as the Toreros honor the life and legacy of legendary head coach Kay Yow and raise money for cancer research.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros held a fourth quarter lead and had a chance to tie with just under a minute to go, but could not hang on, falling 64-59 to Portland on Saturday at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
  • Three Toreros went into double figures, led by Harsimran Kaur with 12 points and five rebounds over just 19 minutes.
  • Veronica Sheffey added 11 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Jess Finney tallied 10 points off the bench.

OPPONENT HISTORY
  • San Diego is set to face Gonzaga for the second time this season, after falling 85-67 at then No. 16 Gonzaga back on Jan. 13.
  • The Toreros are hoping to snap a 15-game losing streak to the Zags and trail 23-53 in the all-time ledger.
  • San Diego is 43-35 in the all-time series against San Francisco, but is looking to snap a three-game slide in the first meeting between the two teams this season.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Dylan Horton and Kasey Neubert are on the chase for 1,000 points in their collegiate careers, as both will have tight finishes for the milestone.
  • Horton (911) needs 89 more points, while Neubert (863) needs 137.
  • A key determining factor for the success of the Toreros is the disbursement of scoring, as the team has won all of their games when at least three or more players score in double figures.
  • Sheffey ranks third in the WCC and 52nd in the nation in assists (97) and third in the WCC and 51st nationally in assists per game (4.9).
  • Her start in the assist category is potentially historic, as only two Toreros have ever averaged over five assists per game over a full season (Amanda Rego (twice) and Lori Morris).
  • In addition, Sheffey continues to rank among the top five in the WCC in free throw attempts and made free throws.
  • Neubert continues to average a double-double per game and has eight over 16 games this season. She ranks 36th nationally and second in the WCC in double-doubles.
  • Neubert also ranks second in the WCC and 26th in the nation in rebounds per game (10.1), as well as third in the conference in total rebounds (161).
  • Kaur ranks third in blocks per game (1.15) and fourth in the WCC in blocks (23).

TORERO TIDBITS
  • Head coach Cindy Fisher is closing in on 400 wins in her career, standing at 393 between San Diego and Wyoming.
  • The Toreros rank second in the WCC in steals per game (8.6) and offensive rebounds per game (12.6).
  • Three of the team's four wins have come when the Toreros shoot over 50 percent from the field as a unit.
