SAN DIEGO – San Diego volleyball (8-7, 3-2 WCC) returns home to host Portland (10-6, 3-3 WCC) and Washington State (10-5, 5-1 WCC) in the Jenny Craig Pavilion this weekend.

The matchup against the Pilots will begin on Thursday at 7 p.m., followed by a matchup with the Cougars on Saturday at 12 p.m.

Both of USD's matches this week will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Braden Surprenant on the calls, and live statistics will be available on USDToreros.com.

LAST TIME OUT
The Toreros fought, and fought, and fought, extending the match even after a premature victory celebration from the Lions commenced and the scoreboard briefly went "final." San Diego rallied from a 2-1 deficit to force a fifth set in a tense back-and-forth affair, coming tantalizingly close to an stunning comeback as its players banded together amid an improbably hostile environment at the Gersten Pavilion.

But in the end, a high-octane Loyola Marymount offense proved to be too much for a young Torero team on Thursday night, dealing USD (8-7, 3-2 WCC) a tough 3-2 defeat in Los Angeles.

San Diego raced to a 25-22 win in the first set, fell 25-21 and 25-14 in sets two and three, then roared back to life with a 25-20 victory in set four to push the game to a decisive fifth frame that ended with a 15-13 score in favor of LMU.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS PORTLAND
The Toreros are 65-9 against the Pilots all-time, with the two programs' last meeting coming in October of last year when USD beat UP 3-0 in Portland.

The Toreros enter Thursday night's match on a 14-game win streak against the Pilots that dates back to October of 2017.

USD has swept Portland a total of 47 times since 1990.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS WASHINGTON STATE
The Toreros are 2-4 against the Cougars all-time, with the two programs' last meeting coming on September 28th when USD fell to WSU 3-1 in Pullman.

USD's last victory over the Cougars came in the Second Round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, when USD, then ranked No. 3 nationally, beat then-24th-ranked WSU 3-1 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion to advance to the Sweet 16.

A MUNDAY MILESTONE
Freshman setter Kylie Munday continued to shine for the Toreros as she reached the 500-assist milestone at LMU last Thursday.

That evening, she also recorded the eighth double-double of her young collegiate career with 39 assists and 10 digs.

KRISTEN IS KEY
Kristen Erland has cemented herself as a key contributor for San Diego in 2024, leading all Toreros with 63 total blocks

Erland's six total blocks versus LMU marked her fifth match with six or more total blocks this season.

Erland joined the Toreros in the spring of 2023 after three seasons at Saint Mary's. During her tenure as a Gael, she earned WCC All-Freshman Team honors in 2021 and Second Team All-WCC honors in 2023.

ALLEN LEADS SAN DIEGO DEFENSE
Madi Allen has been a key part of the Toreros' back row in 2024, leading the USD roster in digs with 237 while tying for the team lead in aces with 18 entering Thursday night's action.

Allen's 15 digs versus LMU marked her seventh game with 15 or more digs this season.

Through her two seasons at BYU and her three seasons with USD, Allen has accumulated 1,287 total digs during her collegiate volleyball career.

CRUSHED BY CLARK
Isabel Clark's match-high 19 kills versus LMU last Thursday set a new career high for her in this category.
