Conference Play Continues in Pacific Northwest

PORTLAND, Ore. – San Diego volleyball (14-8, 9-3 WCC) is off to the Pacific Northwest to  continue conference play on the road this weekend, traveling to the Chiles Center and Gill Coliseum to take on Portland (12-11, 5-8 WCC) and Oregon State.

The matchup against the Pilots will begin on Thursday at 7 p.m., followed by a clash with the Beavers on Saturday at 12 p.m. Both of USD's matches this week will be streamed live on ESPN+, and live statistics will be available on PortlandPilots.com and OSUBeavers.com.

LAST TIME OUT – SAN DIEGO BEATS PEPPERDINE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2022
San Diego secured a 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 25-16, 26-24) victory over conference rival Pepperdine at the Jenny Craig Pavilion last time out on Saturday afternoon.

USD dominated defensively at the net as they out-blocked Pepperdine 16 to 4, holding the Waves to a .122 hitting percentage.

Saturday afternoon's victory tied San Diego for second place in the WCC and marked the Toreros' first win over Pepperdine since November 19, 2022, when USD beat the Waves 3-1 at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu to clinch the 2022 WCC Championship.

ALL-TIME SERIES VERSUS PORTLAND
The Toreros are 66-9 against the Pilots all-time, with the two programs' last meeting coming this past October when USD beat Portland 3-1 in San Diego.

That evening, USD's defense held the Pilots to a minuscule -.020 hitting percentage, spearheaded by Madi Allen's 19 digs and Kristen Erland's 7 total blocks.

The Toreros enter Thursday night's match on a 15-game win streak against the Pilots that dates back to October of 2017.

USD has swept Portland a total of 47 times since 1990.

ALL-TIME SERIES VERSUS OREGON STATE
The Toreros are 3-2 against the Beavers all-time, with the two programs' last meeting coming this past October when USD swept Oregon State in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

That afternoon in the Jenny Craig Pavilion, Isabel Clark notched her third career double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs while hitting .357.

Saturday will mark the first trip to Corvallis by any USD team since Oregon State joined the West Coast Conference.

ISABEL CLARK NAMED WCC OFFENSIVE PLAYER AND FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
After leading San Diego to a big win over rival Pepperdine, first-year outside hitter Isabel Clark has been named both the Credit Union 1 WCC Offensive Player of the Week and the Credit Union 1 WCC Freshman of the Week for November 11, 2024, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday afternoon.

Clark dominated on Saturday afternoon against the Waves, racking up a career-high 24 kills while hitting .418 alongside nine digs, six block assists, two assists, and a service ace as USD prevailed 3-1 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion to move into second place in the WCC standings.

Monday's recognition marked the first weekly conference honors of Clark's college career. She is the first USD player to be named WCC Offensive Player of the Week this year and the fourth to earn a WCC Freshman of the Week nod. In total, San Diego has taken home eight weekly WCC awards in 2024.

Freshman setter Kylie Munday notched her 13th double-double (38 assists, 10 digs) of her young collegiate career versus Pepperdine last Saturday afternoon, matching AVCA First Team All-American Gabby Blossom's 13 double-doubles through 33 games in 2022.

Her 38 assists versus Pepperdine also marked her 12th game with 35 or more assists this year.

• She currently ranks third in assists/set (9.21) in the WCC.

MADI MAKES IT HAPPEN
Redshirt senior libero Madi Allen currently ranks second in the WCC with 4.19 digs/set.

Her 16 digs versus Pepperdine last Saturday marked her 13th game this season recording 15 or more digs.

Through her three seasons with USD, Allen has accumulated 865 total digs.

Including her two seasons with BYU, Allen has amassed 1,402 total digs throughout her collegiate volleyball career.

KRISTEN IS KEY
Senior middle blocker Kristen Erland leads all Toreros in total blocks this season with 93.

She ranks third in the WCC with 1.19 blocks/set.

Erland hit. 571 last Saturday versus Pepperdine, tallying eight kills without committing an attack error.
She also notched seven total blocks (one solo, six block assists), which matched her season-high in this category.

TORERO TOUGH
In addition to ranking first in opponent hitting percentage (.170), opponent blocks/set (1.74), and team blocks/set (2.55) in the WCC, San Diego holds two NCAA top-50 defensive rankings.
