Toreros Fall to LMU in Five Sets at the JCP

San Diego drops 3-2 decision to Loyola Marymount on Saturday afternoon

SAN DIEGO — Freshman outside hitter Isabel Clark led all players with 15 kills on Saturday afternoon as San Diego volleyball pushed Loyola Marymount to a decisive fifth set, but the Toreros could not overcome a potent offensive effort from the Lions, falling by a 3-2 margin at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

USD (13-8, 8-3 WCC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the match after taking the opening frame 25-19, but fell behind 2-1 after dropping back-to-back 25-17 decisions in the second and third sets. San Diego rallied for a 25-22 victory in set four to force a fifth and final frame but suffered a 15-9 defeat in the closing period.

Clark recorded a double-double by adding 13 digs, and was joined in double-digit scoring by Nemo Beach, who tallied 10 kills and four digs of her own. First-year setter Kylie Munday notched her 11th double-double of the season by racking up 39 assists and 11 digs.

Four block assists from Haylee Stoner headlined a well-rounded effort from the USD defense, one that saw seven Toreros tally multiple blocks.
