SAN DIEGO – Looking to bounce back after a pair of losses last week, the San Diego women's basketball team is back in action for a pair of games as they will host the La Sierra Golden Eagles (0-4, 0-0 NAIA) on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6:00 p.m. The Toreros will then hit the road and travel north to take on the Boise State Broncos (7-2, 0-0 MWC) on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 1:00 p.m. PT from ExtraMile Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Toreros are looking to rebound after a 78-67 loss to Alabama A&M in the final game of the 2024 Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday afternoon.
- Kylie Horstmeyer led the way for San Diego against the Bulldogs as she scored 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting while grabbing four rebounds, while dishing out a pair of assists and blocking a pair of shots.
- USD did a good job of spreading the wealth against Alabama A&M with Ava Ranson, Truitt Reilly and Lauren McCall each scoring 12 points in the home loss.
OPPONENT HISTORY
- San Diego will be facing La Sierra for the first time in each program's history.
- Sunday afternoon's game in Boise will be the eighth all-time meeting between the two schools as USD holds a 4-3 advantage in the first seven meetings. The two sides faced off last season at Jenny Craig Pavilion with Boise State coming away with the 62-54 victory. Veronica Sheffrey led the way for San Diego in that game as she scored a team-best 15 points in the loss.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
- La Sierra enters Thursday night's game with a 1-4 record to start the season as they've taken losses against: Hope International, CSUN, The Master's and Lincoln. In the team's most recent game they earned their first win as they beat Bethesda 54-43 on La Sierra's home floor.
- Leading the Golden Eagles' offense to begin the season has been the play of senior guard Kaydn Mew, who's averaging 14 PPG this season while averaging 30.6 minutes per game.
- As an offense, La Sierra has averaged 61 PPG this season and have shot only 34% as a team as San Diego looks to get back on track on their home floor.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
- Boise State enters Sunday's game with a 7-2 overall record but have dropped their last two games to #12 West Virginia and Butler in neutral site matchups in Florida.
- Playing and starting in all nine of her team's games this season, junior guard Tatum Thompson has had a tremendous start to her season as she's averaging a team-high 10.6 PPG on 43% shooting from the field while grabbing five rebounds a game.
- The Broncos have done a tremendous job of protecting their home court to begin the season as they're a perfect 5-0 at ExtraMile Arena to start the 2024-25 campaign.
