SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — 2024 WCC Freshman of the Year
Isabel Clark and 2024 WCC Setter of the Year
Kylie Munday joined five other Toreros in receiving end-of-year WCC honors, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday afternoon.
Clark, Kristen Erland, and Haylee Stoner were all named to the 2024 All-WCC First Team, Nemo Beach was selected to the 2024 All-WCC Second Team, Madi Allen and Kennedy Osunsanmi earned 2024 All-WCC Honorable Mentions, and Clark, Munday, and Osunsanmi picked up 2024 WCC All-Freshman Team honors.
Clark, who also earned 2024 All-WCC First Team and All-WCC Freshman Team honors, ranked seventh in the WCC in kills/set (3.21), which led all freshmen in the conference in this category. She finished the season totaling 311 kills while hitting .206 alongside 185 digs, 54 total blocks, 17 service aces, and 15 assists.
Clark is the 11th Torero in program history to win the conference's top first-year honor. With Nemo Beach's 2023 Freshman of the Year honor last year, this marks San Diego's fourth time receiving back-to-back Freshman of the Year honors. This was last accomplished by Devon Forster in 2001 and Lindsey Sherburne in 2002.
She is a two-time Freshman of the Week and took home one Offensive Player of the Week honor this season.
Munday, who also earned 2024 All-WCC Freshman Team honors, is the third Torero in program history to win WCC Setter of the Year, last won by AVCA First Team All-American Gabby Blossom in 2022. The true freshman from Post Falls, Idaho led the WCC in assists per set (9.50) as she steered the USD offense to a .251 team hitting percentage, which also paced the league.
She is the first freshman in WCC history to win Setter of the Year honors and the first freshman since 2019 to lead the WCC in assists per set.
Munday was previously named the WCC Freshman of the Week on October 28.
Erland, who spent the first three seasons of her college career within the conference at Saint Mary's, earned her first career All-WCC First Team selection after a season filled with dominant performances on both sides of the ball. She totaled 159 kills alongside 112 block assists and seven solo blocks through 100 sets, and her .370 hitting percentage and 1.19 blocks per set average ranked third in the WCC.
This is Erland's third end-of-year WCC honor, following an All-WCC Second Team selection in 2023 and a spot on the WCC All-Freshman Team in 2021.
Stoner capped an accomplished Torero career by earning her first-ever All-WCC First Team selection, totaling 213 kills while hitting .360 alongside 102 block assists, and 13 solo blocks.
This is her sixth end-of-year WCC honor, following All-WCC Second Team and WCC All-Academic First Team selections in 2023, All-WCC Honorable Mention and WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention selections in 2022, and a spot on the WCC All-Freshman Team in 2021. Stoner is a three-time WCC Defensive Player of the Week (October 21, 2024 and September 26 and November 23, 2022).
Beach followed up her 2023 WCC Freshman of the Year award with an All-WCC Second Team selection, totaling 281 kills across 97 sets while hitting .223. Last season she was also named a 2023 All-WCC Honorable Mention and to the 2023 All-WCC Freshman Team.
Osunsanmi, who also earned an All-WCC Honorable Mention, joined Clark and Munday on the All-WCC Freshman Team. The freshman opposite totaled 251 kills while hitting .241 alongside 71 total blocks and 17 service aces. She was the most awarded first year player in the conference this season, receiving the WCC Freshman of the Week honor a league-high three times in 2024.
Allen earned her first career All-WCC Honorable Mention after cementing herself as the conference's most efficient libero this season. Her 4.30 digs per set average makes her the first Torero in over ten years to lead the WCC in digs per set, a feat last achieved by C'era Oliveira in 2013. She finished her final college season with 456 digs, 117 assists, and 40 service aces. Allen's average of 0.38 service aces per set was tied for second in the WCC in 2024. Across five college campaigns at both San Diego (2022-2024) and BYU (2020-2021) she collected five WCC Defensive Player of the Week recognitions and an All-WCC Second Team selection in addition to this year's honor.
USD finished the 2024 regular season with an overall record of 19-9, including a 14-4 mark in West Coast Conference play that placed them at second place in the league standings behind conference champion Loyola Marymount.
