San Diego Plays Complete Game in a Dominant Win Over La Sierra

Toreros take down Golden Eagles 76-37 in the Jenny Craig Pavilion

SAN DIEGO — After a pair of losses at the Thanksgiving Classic, the San Diego women's basketball team (3-4, 0-0 WCC) bounced back with a blowout victory over La Sierra, besting the Golden Eagles by a 76-37 margin on Thursday night in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

The team turned in a fabulous all-around effort on both ends of the floor, as 13 different Toreros scored at least two points in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lauren McCall started things off quickly for the Toreros by knocking down a quick three pointer to give her team an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Toreros would go on to start the first quarter on a 11-4 run as a pair of Truitt Reilly jumpers helped extend their lead.
  • A nice put back layup from Erica Carr gave USD a 21-8 lead before a free throw from Kylie Horstmeyer made it 22-8 San Diego to close out the quarter.
  • Neither team would score to begin the second quarter until the 6:57 mark when Dresha Moore finished a layup to make it 24-8.
  • A layup and a jump shot from Jayden Rhodes midway through the second quarter allowed the Toreros to extend their lead to 30-13 with three minutes to go in the opening half.
  • A fast break bucket from Courtney Wristen closed out the half for USD, making it 40-14 at the break.
  • Setting the tone to start the second half, Horstmeyer knocked down a jumper as San Diego pushed its lead to 43-16.
  • Carr continued to be consistent in the post, knocking down another post hook-shot to give her team a 53-26 lead late in the third quarter.
  • A clutch three from Claire Gallagher with 30 seconds left in the third quarter to make it 57-30 to close out the third period.
  • Paris Santacaterina got herself involved to start the fourth quarter with a fast break driving layup moving the score to 61-30.
  • Lilly Amor drained a three pointer at the 5:41 minute mark to keep San Diego firmly ahead 66-32.
  • A highlight reel inbound pass to herself off the back of a defender and then a layup finish in the final seconds from Santacaterina gave USD a 76-37 that it would not relinquish.

  • 39 of USD's 76 total points came from the bench.
