SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The San Diego women's basketball program (5-18, 1-9 WCC) fell into a deficit in the second quarter and could not recover, falling 83-57 at Santa Clara (18-7, 6-4 WCC) on Thursday night at the Leavey Center.    
 
Harsimran Kaur led all Toreros with a career-high 18 points, while Kylie Horstmeyer added 12 points and Veronica Sheffey recorded 11 points and seven assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The two sides traded blows through an even first quarter, as Veronica Sheffey opened up with four quick points.
• Horstmeyer and Kasey Neubert each added a three-pointer late in the period, as the Broncos held a slight 20-16 lead.
• However, the Broncos began to pull away in the second quarter, going on a 17-6 run.
• A jumper by Jess Finney cut the lead slightly, but the Toreros trailed by 13 points at halftime.
• The lead expanded further for the Broncos, who ended up leading by a height of 24 points in the third quarter.
• Horstmeyer added another three pointer, while Kaur extended her big day to cut the Santa Clara lead back to 19 points towards the end of the quarter.
• San Diego made one late push to cut the lead to 17 with seven minutes remaining, but Santa Clara would pull away from there and secure the victory.

 
TORERO TIDBITS

• Kaur tallied a career-high in points in the loss. Three of her four previous games of 12 or more points have come in WCC play.
