ANN ARBOR, Mich. — After returning home on Tuesday night and earning a hard-fought win over CSUN, San Diego baseball (8-7, 0-0 WCC) is back out on the road this weekend, traveling to Michigan for three games against the Wolverines (6-11, 0-0 WCC) in what will mark the Toreros' final non-conference series of 2024.
First pitch on Friday at Ray Fisher Stadium is set for 12:00 p.m. PST, followed by a 11:00 a.m. PST start on Saturday and a 10:00 a.m. PST series finale on Sunday.
All three games will be streamed live on Big Ten Plus, and live statistics will be provided on MGoBlue.com.
LAST TIME OUT - Early Offense, Strong Bullpen Power Midweek Win Over MatadorsÂ
• A first inning three-run shot fromÂ
Jack Costello paired with a gritty collective performance from the Torero bullpen powered San Diego baseball to a hard-fought 6-5 win over CSUN on Tuesday night at Fowler Park, splitting the season series with the Matadors.
• San Diego found itself trailing by a run in the bottom of the fourth after Costello's first-inning bomb, but reclaimed the lead by plating two runs in the fourth and one run in the sixth, which provided enough cushion forÂ
Conner Thurman — who was one of six Torero pitchers to record a scoreless outing in relief — and company to close things out on the mound and seal the win.
Notable:
• Thurman picked up the win on the mound for USD, moving to 1-0 in the 2024 season. San Diego tied its season-high by drawing a season-high eight walks against CSUN, matching its total from last Tuesday night at San Diego State.
• Three of those walks the Toreros drew against the Matadors came around to score.Â
• Justin Decriscio,
Dustin Allen, and
Ariel Armas each ended the night with two free passes apiece.
• Seven relievers from the Torero bullpen teamed up in relief of starter
Ryan Kysar after he departed in the fourth inning and combined to pitch 6.1 innings of one-run ball.
• Freshman catcherÂ
Nico Libed, who attended nearby Eastlake High School, doubled in his first at-bat at Fowler Park on Tuesday night after recording his first college hit on Sunday afternoon at No. 17 DBU.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST MICHIGAN
• The Toreros are 7-4 against the Wolverines all-time, with the two teams' most recent meeting coming earlier this season on Sunday, March 3 at Dodger Stadium as part of the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic.
• USD took home a dominant 9-1 victory that morning in Los Angeles, utilizing a six-run sixth inning and a pair of homers from
Jack Costello and
Jakob Christian to cruise past the Wolverines. True freshman righty
Logan Reddemann started for San Diego against U-M and turned in six strong frames to earn his first college win.
• Prior to 2024, USD and Michigan last played each other on February 23, 2018, when the Toreros secured a 5-1 win at Fowler Park.
• This weekend's series marks San Diego baseball's first-ever trip to Ray Fisher Stadium.
