SAN DIEGO — After closing out its first WCC series with a dominant win over Saint Mary's, San Diego baseball (12-10, 1-2 WCC) is set to conclude a four-game homestand on Tuesday night by hosting Cal State Fullerton for a midweek non-conference matchup at Fowler Park.
First pitch against the Titans is set for 6:05 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Braden Surprenant on the call. An audio simulcast will be available alongside live statistics on USDToreros.com.
LAST TIME OUT - Toreros Bounce Back with Big Win Over Saint Mary's
• San Diego baseball on Saturday evening turned in a dominant performance in its series finale against Saint Mary's, beating the Gaels by a 16-2 margin at Fowler Park behind a four-RBI afternoon from Justin DeCriscio and seven shutdown innings on the mound from Calvin Schapira.
• The Toreros fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning but immediately responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame and never looked back, adding two in the fourth, four in the sixth, two in the seventh, and another four in the eighth while hammering 15 hits.
• Schapira was sharp in his third start of 2024, allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out nine.
• DeCriscio headlined a well-rounded effort for USD at the plate, one that saw eight of its nine starters record a hit and seven of the Toreros' original starting nine drive in a run.
Notable:
• Schapira picked up the win on Saturday evening to move to 3-0 in 2024 as he turned in the longest outing of any San Diego pitcher so far this season (seven innings). His nine strikeouts are a USD career high, and are the second-most by a Torero in a single game this season (Josh Randall, 10 vs. Arizona on February 23).Â
• DeCriscio, Allen, and Peraza all drove in multiple runs on Saturday.
• Eight of the Toreros' nine starters recorded a hit against the Gaels, including six two-hit performances.
• Peraza and Worthington led the way with three runs scored apiece, followed by DeCriscio and Armas with two. In total, 10 different Toreros came around to score on Saturday.
• As a team, the Toreros drew four walks and were hit by a remarkable six pitches in their finale against SMC.
• San Diego's 16 runs and 15 hits on Saturday night are both tied for its team season high (March 16 at Michigan).
• The Toreros' 14-run margin of victory against the Gaels in the finale is their largest so far this season.
• With the win on Saturday evening, USD avoided suffering its first WCC sweep since April 20-22, 2018, when it lost all three games at Pepperdine.
• San Diego has still never been swept in a conference series under head coach Brock Ungricht, and hasn't suffered a sweep at Fowler Park since April 17-19, 2015 versus San Francisco.
• USD's schedule against Saint Mary's last weekend was modified due to impending inclement weather in the San Diego area. Games one and two took place in a doubleheader on Friday before Saturday's series finale was played a day early to avoid rain in the forecast on Sunday.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST CAL STATE FULLERTON
• The Toreros are 20-69-3 all-time against the Titans, with the two teams' most recent meeting coming a week ago today — last Tuesday evening in Fullerton. USD secured a decisive 7-2 win that night at Goodwin Field, doing so behind early home runs from Jakob Christian and Ariel Armas and scoreless outings in relief from Ivran Romero, Dallin Harrison, Aídan Gonzalez, and Nick Suspenzi.
• San Diego last hosted CSUF in March of 2022, when the Toreros hung on and earned an eventful 11-10 win at Fowler Park. Dustin Allen had two hits, two runs scored, two walks, and an RBI that night against the Titans, followed by Will Worthington, who drove in two runs.
• Dating back to 2021, USD has won back-to-back games against CSUF at Fowler Park.
FOR STARTERS (PROBABLE)
• Redshirt junior right-hander Ryan Kysar is set to start for San Diego on Tuesday night, marking the second consecutive week in which he takes the mound against the Titans.Â
• Kysar (0-0, 6.64 ERA) most recently pitched last Tuesday (March 19) at CSUF, when he surrendered two earned runs on three hits while walking two and striking out five across 3.2 frames.
• So far in 2024 he has made five appearances (all starts), compiling 20.1 innings, 24 strikeouts, and nine walks.
• Kysar, a 6-foot, 200-pound righty from Valencia, California, attended Valencia High School, and transferred to USD from the University of Arizona after his freshman season.
• He was named to the All-WCC Freshman Team in 2022 after his first year in San Diego.

BEST IN THE WEST (COAST CONFERENCE)Â
• From the beginning of the 2019 season until now, no baseball team in the West Coast Conference has compiled a better overall win/loss record than San Diego.Â
• Combining their 2019 record (32-21), their abbreviated 2020 totals (12-4), their 33-12 mark in 2021, their 37-20 record in 2022, their 24-25-1 totals in 2023, and their 12-10 record so far in 2024, the Toreros are a conference-best 151-93-1 (.619) in that 245-game span.
• Next best within that time frame are Portland (120-104, .536), Gonzaga (132-120, .524), and Saint Mary's (128-123, .510).
