USD Golf Wins WCC Championship

Toreros beat Pepperdine at Gold Mountain Golf Club to clinch the WCC title for the first time since 2008

BREMERTON, Wash. — San Diego golf on Sunday afternoon clinched the WCC tournament title in a dominant fashion at the Gold Mountain Golf Club (Par 72, 7101 yards). The team recorded rounds of 279, 271, and 283 for a total of 833 strokes that were 31 under par. After three rounds of 18 the Toreros landed in first going into the semifinal round of match play. 

USD was led by graduate student Craig Ronne who finished tied for 4th with a 9-under 207 (69, 68, 70).

Junior Carson Enright was next at T-7, carding rounds of 67, 67, 75 for a 7-under 209.

Senior Andi Xu trailed close behind finishing 9th (-6, 73, 66, 71, 210), followed by Senior Kelvin Si at T-14 (-1, 75, 70, 70, 215), and freshman Ryan Abuan at T-14 (-1, 70, 73, 72, 215). 

USD defeated Saint Mary's in the semifinal round of match play 3-0. Led by a 4&2 win from Kelvin Si, a 3&2 win from Carson Enright, and a 6&4 win from Craig Ronne

A 2&1 win from Carson Enright, 3&1 win from Andi Xu, and 5&3 win from Craig Ronne powered the Toreros to win the WCC Championship 3-1 against Pepperdine. For the first time in 16 years, USD Golf raised the trophy high. 

The Toreros will now await their bid for the NCAA Regionals tournament at the selection show on Wednesday, May 1 at 11 a.m. PST on the Golf Channel.
