Maspat's Hole In One Highlights Challenging Second Round in Corvallis

You Seong Choi at T-14, Toreros are in ninth place after two rounds at Trysting Tree Golf Club

USD MEN'S GOLF AT THE 2026 NCAA CORVALLIS REGIONAL - What You Need to Know: CORVALLIS, Ore. — In the second round of the NCAA Corvallis Regional on Tuesday, San Diego men's golf was challenged as it navigated day two of the 54-hole tournament at Trysting Tree Golf Club.

After the second round, the seventh-seeded Toreros dropped from fifth to ninth place and even par with 18 more holes left on Wednesday.

You Seong Choi, who shot a bogey-free 3-under 68 in Monday's first round, shot a 1-under 70 and sits tied for 14th on the individual leaderboard.

The Toreros, who all started on the 10th hole in Tuesday's second round, were led by Choi as he turned it on on the front nine.

Despite shooting 1-over on the back nine, Choi dialed it in, shooting 2-under on the first six holes of the front nine with birdies on the par-3 third and the par-3 sixth. Although he made a bogey on the par-4 eighth, he got that stroke back on his final hole with a birdie on the par-4 ninth.

Reed Arnaldo remained in the red numbers, shooting even par to sit at 1-under through two rounds.

Arnaldo made two birdies and three bogeys on the back nine, highlighted by a 2 on the par-3 13th. During his closing nine holes, the freshman shot 2-under before dropping a shot on his final shot of the day.

Ian Maspat and Reid Piron rounded out USD's team scoring in the second round.

Maspat had the highlight of the day with an ace on the par-3 13th. Ultimately as a team, San Diego shot 4-under on the 13th hole alone. Maspat, an All-WCC First Team selection, continued that energy with a birdie on the par-5 16th. Although he made a double bogey on the par-3 17th from 225 yards out, he was the only Torero to record an under-par score through the first nine holes.

But on the back nine, Maspat made bogeys on the par-4 second and the par-3 sixth sandwiched in between a double bogey on the par-5 fifth.

San Diego's fifth competitor, Cooper Humphreys, also struggled. Humphreys joined Choi, Arnaldo, and Piron with 1-over 37s on the back nine. However, the sophomore took a tumble on the second nine with three bogeys and a double bogey.

On the team leaderboard, the Toreros, who are competing in their sixth straight NCAA Regional, are eight strokes back of Arkansas, which sits in fifth place — the final team spot that moves on to the NCAA Championships. In between the Toreros and the Razorbacks are Georgia Southern and Liberty, which are both tied for sixth, and Texas Tech, which is three shots ahead of San Diego.

Choi is one of six players tied for 14th place at 4-under par and will enter Wednesday's final round five shots back of the lead, held by Oklahoma's Ryder Cowan.

The third and final round of the NCAA Corvallis Regional continues tomorrow at Trysting Tree Golf Club. The top five teams and the low individual not on a qualifying team will advance to the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa May 29-June 3 in Carlsbad, Calif.
