SAN DIEGO – The San Diego men's soccer program has inked their first new addition to the 2024 team, as the program has signed
Inigo Villaldea as a graduate transfer.
Villaldea joins the Toreros after spending last season at Bryant. Prior to his time in Rhode Island, Villaldea spent three seasons at San Diego State. Villaldea will have one year of eligibility remaining.
A native of Gijon, Spain, Villaldea has been a long-time starter in the midfield at both Bryant and San Diego State. Villaldea has played in 52 games in his career, scoring 14 goals and adding 15 assists for 43 points. The veteran was instrumental in helping his 16-2-2 Bryant squad win the America East title, as he scored a goal against Binghamton in the America East semifinal, before playing 97 minutes in the double overtime win over No. 10 New Hampshire in the final to return to the NCAA Tournament. Villaldea also played a full 90 minutes in the first round against Yale.
For his efforts, Villaldea was tabbed to the America East All-Championship Team and was selected as an All-Northeast Region Second team honoree. In his lone season at Bryant, Villaldea scored seven goals and added five assists over 19 games played.
Prior to his season at Bryant, Villaldea played three seasons at San Diego State, where he earned All-PAC-12 First Team and All-West Region Second Team honors as a sophomore, while also taking home All-PAC-12 Honorable Mention honors as a freshman and a junior. Villaldea shined in two matchups with the Toreros, scoring a goal and adding four assists, including two at Torero Stadium on Oct. 15, 2021.
Villaldea is also a gifted student, who was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and to the Pac-12 Honor Roll while at San Diego State.
