USD Men's Soccer Dominates SDSU at Torero Stadium

Toreros beat Aztecs 3-0 on Monday night behind goals from Duus Muller, Fava, and Bahena

SAN DIEGO – A trio of goals helped San Diego men's soccer (1-0-1) dominate crosstown rival San Diego State (1-1-0) on Monday night, with Simon Duus Muller, Luca Fava, and Cesar Bahena all finding the back of the net as USD cruised past the Aztecs by a 3-0 margin at Torero Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Duus Muller got the scoring started in the 13th minute by converting on a penalty kick, stutter stepping before taking the shot with his right foot to the bottom right corner. San Diego was awarded the penalty kick after the SDSU goalkeeper took down Bahena near the goal.
  • Fava added on in the 32nd minute with a deep, stunning shot that curled its way to the top right corner of the net, shooting the ball with his left foot from 30 yards out after a pair of short passes.
  • Bahena struck from distance in the 60th minute to seal the win, receiving an assist from Sami Tsipena before catching the Aztecs' goalie out in front and turning him around for a 40-yard right-footed chip that sailed over his head and into the net.
TORERO TIDBITS UP NEXT
The Toreros are back in action this Thursday night, when they remain at home to host Lipscomb. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., and will take place as part of a doubleheader at Torero Stadium after the conclusion of USD women's soccer's 5:00 p.m. matchup against UC Santa Barbara.
