Greg LaPorte Collects First Win as USD Women's Soccer Head Coach

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – San Diego Women's Soccer secured Greg Laporte's first win as head coach with a 1-0 victory on the road over UC Riverside on Sunday night.

"It's an incredible feeling," LaPorte said. "It's a testament to the hard work and dedication fo our players and staff. The team executed the game plan with precision and resilience, and I couldn't be prouder of their effort on the field. Our coaching staff has been diligent in preparing the team for this moment and the players responded with heart and determination. This win is just the beginning and I'm excited for what's ahead."

It was senior midfielder Lexi Zandonella-Arasa that scored the deciding goal in the 52nd minute, slotting the ball bottom left past the goalkeeper of an assist from sophomore forward Tamia Graham. It was both of their first points of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ilise Medrano and the Torero defense recorded their second clean sheet of the season. Medrano saved all three shots that came her way. USD has conceded just 1.37 goals per game through their first eight.

The Toreros out shot UC Riverside three-fold, 15 shots to six, six to three on frame.

San Diego (1-4-3) will look to build off the momentum ahead of their final non-conference match, a road contest with Cal. State Northridge on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m..
