USD Volleyball Wraps Up Non-Conference Play in Baton Rouge

Toreros set to take on North Florida, Boston College, and LSU at Pete Maravich Assembly Center

BATON ROUGE, LA – San Diego volleyball is set to wrap up its 2024 non-conference slate this weekend, taking on North Florida (Thursday) and Boston College and LSU (Friday) at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. 

The Toreros will get things started with a 2:00 p.m. PST matchup against the Osprey on Thursday afternoon before taking on both the Eagles (10:00 a.m. PST) and the Tigers (5:00 p.m. PST) on Friday.

San Diego's matchup against the Tigers will be streamed live on SEC Network+, while live statistics for all three matches in Baton Rouge will be available on StatBroadcast. 

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST NORTH FLORIDA
  • Thursday afternoon will mark the first-ever volleyball matchup between San Diego and North Florida.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST BOSTON COLLEGE
  • USD is 1-0 against Boston College all-time, with the lone previous meeting coming last September at the Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego. USD won that matchup 3-1 on an evening that featured head coach Jennifer Petrie coaching against her daughter, Jane, who plays setter for the Eagles.
  • Mother and daughter will meet again on Friday as Jane Petrie, now a senior, continues her career at BC.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST LSU
  • The Toreros are 3-0 all-time against the Tigers, with the two programs' most recent meeting coming in December 2017, when USD beat LSU 3-1 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Los Angeles. 
  • Friday afternoon will mark the Toreros' first trip to Pete Maravich Assembly Center, and the first matchup in the all-time series between LSU and USD that does not take place at a neutral site. 
USD UPSETS NO. 17 BYU, EARNS FIRST RANKED WIN SINCE 2022
  • USD's 3-2 win against No. 17 BYU during the USD Invitational last weekend (September 12) marked the program's first win against a ranked opponent since November 18th, 2022, when it defeated then-No. 18 BYU 3-1 before a sold-out Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah.
CHASING 500 WINS
San Diego head coach Jennifer Petrie enters Thursday afternoon's game with 496 career head coaching wins, putting her just four victories away from 500. All 496 have come at USD.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAY AWAITS
  • After their trip to Baton Rouge, the Toreros will head to Spokane, Washington to take on Gonzaga in what will mark their 2024 WCC opener. San Diego is 63-9 all-time against the Bulldogs and has won each of its last 57 matchups with the Zags.
