SAN DIEGO – San Diego volleyball (0-2, 0-0 WCC) is set to host the Jack Talmadge Volleyball Classic this weekend, taking on St. John's for its home opener on Friday, No. 16 Arizona State on Saturday, and UC Santa Barbara on Sunday in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
The matchup against the Red Storm will begin on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. matchup with the Sun Devils on Saturday and a 2 p.m. clash with the Gauchos on Sunday afternoon in the weekend finale.
All three of USD's matches will be streamed live on ESPN+ with David Gentile (Friday) and Jack Cronin (Saturday and Sunday) on the calls.
Live statistics for all matches in the Jack Talmadge Volleyball Classic will be available on USDToreros.com and StatBroadcast.
PLAYING FOR JACK
 This weekend's tournament in the JCP will be played in honor of late fan Jack Talmadge, who over more than a decade provided support of the Toreros that was unparalleled. Considered by all to be USD volleyball's most beloved, number-one fan, Talmadge was a fixture at all San Diego home games and booster events.
"His generosity provided incredible opportunities for many USD volleyball players, and he touched every athlete in our program with his belief, encouragement, and support," head coach
Jennifer Petrie said in a statement on Wednesday. "May he rest in peace, as we carry on his memory and honor his contribution to the excellence of USD volleyball."
Talmadge was 88 years old.

Kennedy Osunsanmi erupted for 14 kills as San Diego volleyball raced to an early lead over Hawaii on Sunday night, but the Toreros couldn't hang on as the Rainbow Wahine rallied to earn a 3-1 victory before a crowd of 5,968 at the SimpliFi Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center.
• After USD won the first set 25-11, Hawaii took the next three by scores of 25-16, 25-22, and 25-20.

OSUNSANMI EARNS WCC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONORS
• After headlining San Diego volleyball's opening weekend with a stellar college debut, opposite
Kennedy Osunsanmi has been named the WCC Freshman of the Week for September 2, 2024, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday afternoon.
• She racked up 24 kills, 3 service aces, 13 digs and 5 block assists while hitting .317 against SMU and Hawaii as part of the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center.
• Osunsanmi started things off with 10 kills, a service ace, five digs and five block assists on Friday night against the Mustangs. She later boasted 14 kills and a .464 hitting percentage alongside a pair of service aces, eight digs and three block assists in the weekend finale against the host Rainbow Wahine on Sunday evening. For her efforts, she was one of five players named to the event's all-tournament team.
• Monday's selection marks the first WCC honor of Osunsanmi's young college career.
