SAN DIEGO/LOS ANGELES – After more than a week away from the court, the San Diego women's basketball team is back in action for a pair of games. The Toreros will first welcome the Pepperdine Waves (6-8, 1-4 WCC) to Jenny Craig Pavilion on Saturday, Jan. 18 for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
San Diego will then head back out on the road to face LMU (6-7, 0-5 WCC) on Monday, Jan. 20 at 2:00 p.m. from Gersten Pavilion. Monday's game is the make up of the previously scheduled game that was postponed due to the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.
LAST TIME OUT
- USD came up short on the road their last time out as they fell to Santa Clara by a 67-59 margin at Leavey Center last Saturday.
- Truitt Reilly put together another strong afternoon as she scored 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out three assists, blocked a shot and came away with a steal against the Broncos.
- Playing a key role off San Diego's bench, Hallie Rhodes played 34 key minutes as she scored 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field while grabbing three rebounds and collecting a pair of assists.
- Making her first collegiate start on Saturday, Dresha Moore scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds in her 22 minutes of action.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. PEPPERDINE
- San Diego will be facing the Waves for the second time this season and for the 93rd time in both program's histories as Pepperdine leads the all-time series 48-44.
- The Toreros lost to Pepperdine by a 63-49 margin at Firestone Fieldhouse back on January 2, as Moore, Ava Ranson and Lauren McCall each scored in double figures.
- Last season's matchup at the JCP was a 53-52 victory for the Waves as Kylie Horstmeyer scored 13 points for the Toreros last January.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LMU
- Monday afternoon's game in LA will be the 87th all-time meeting for long time conference opponents as the Toreros lead the all-time series 54-32 and won the most recent meeting between the schools.
- In last season's matchups the home team won both games as LMU earned the 67-60 victory on Jan. 20, 2024, while the Toreros responded at Jenny Craig Pavilion with a 66-50 victory on Feb. 17, 2024 to split the 2023-24 season series.
- Dylan Horton was a key player for San Diego in last season's games against the Lions as she averaged 15 points across both games to go along with 3.5 assists in last year's games.
SCOUTING THE WAVES
- Pepperdine enters Saturday's game with a 6-8 overall record and a 1-4 mark in conference action with a victory over USD and losses against Santa Clara, Washington State, Gonzaga and San Francisco this season.
- Leading the way for the Waves so far this season has been the play of graduate student guard Ella Brubaker who's averaging a team-high 12 PPG this season. In the first meeting against the Toreros this season, Brubaker tallied 14 points and grabbed four rebounds.
- San Diego will look to be aggressive on the defensive end of the court as they forced 17 Pepperdine turnovers in the first meeting back in Malibu.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
- LMU enters this week of conference play with a 6-7 overall record but have dropped their first five conference games against Portland twice, Saint Mary's, San Francisco and Oregon State.
- Graduate student guard Naudia Evans has been the stand out for the Lions this season as she's averaging a team best 14.4 PPG to go along with 6.8 assists to set up her teammates with quality looks at the basket.
- San Diego will look to control the glass against LMU on Monday as they have been out-rebounded by an average of 3.2 boards a game throughout the 2024-25 season.
