SPOKANE/PULLMAN, Wash. – Beginning another week of conference action away from home, the San Diego women's basketball team (4-15, 0-10 WCC) is preparing for a pair of road contests in the Pacific Northwest.
Beginning their week, USD will be facing the Gonzaga Bulldogs (13-8, 8-2 WCC) on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6:00 p.m. at the McCarthey Athletic Center. San Diego will then head south to take on the Washington State Cougars on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 12:00 p.m. from Beasley Coliseum. Both games will be the second matchup for the Toreros against the WCC's two Washington schools.
LAST TIME OUT
- USD is looking to bounce back from a close defeat their last time out at home against San Francisco where they lost by a 63-56 final score on Saturday afternoon.
- Kylie Horstmeyer had another great game in her last time out as she scored 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, while also grabbing a rebound, blocking a shot and coming away with a steal.
- Continuing to get her footing in a starter's role, Dresha Moore played a season-high 34 minutes as she scored 10 points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds against the Dons on Saturday.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. GONZAGA
- Thursday night's game at The Kennel will be 79th all-time meeting between the two programs, as Gonzaga leads the overall series 55-23 and have won 17 straight against the Toreros dating back to the 2015-16 season.
- In the first game between the two teams this season, the Bulldogs earned the 66-59 road victory at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
- Horstmeyer led the way for her team in the first matchup as she scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed three rebounds, while Courtney Wristen scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Gonzaga.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. WASHINGTON STATE
- Saturday afternoon's game in Pullman will be the sixth all-time meeting between the two programs with WSU emerging victorious in all five of the previous games.
- In the first matchup this season between the two teams, Washington State picked up the 65-42 victory over the Toreros on Dec. 21, 2024 at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
- Four of the Cougars starters scored in double figures during the first meeting in San Diego with senior guard Tara Wallack leading the way by scoring 13 points, collecting five rebounds and dishing out four assists.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- Gonzaga enters this week at the top of the WCC standings with an 8-2 record and a 13-8 overall mark on the season. The Bulldogs lone losses in conference play were against San Francisco and Oregon State back in December.
- USD will have their hands full trying to contain senior forward Yvone Ejim who's leading the conference by averaging 21.1 PPG this season, and scored a season-high 29 points in the first meeting between the two teams in San Diego.
- San Diego will also look to continue turning up the intensity as they forced 27 Bulldog turnovers back in December at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
- Washington State enters this week's action with a 13-10 overall record and an 8-4 mark in conference play, with their WCC losses coming against Santa Clara, Gonzaga, Portland and LMU in their most recent game.
- Sophomore guard Eleonora Villa has been critical for her team this season as she's averaging 13.9 PPG and is second on the Cougars with 62 assists this year.
- The Toreros will have their hands full scoring on the WSU defense as the Cougars rank second in the WCC in opponent field goal percentage at 38.8% for the season.
