Las Toreras Suffer Succumbs to Second Defeat of the Season

USD bested 4-1 on the road to Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – USD women's soccer suffered its second defeat of the season Sunday afternoon, suffering a 4-1 defeat to the Oregon State Beavers in Las Toreras' 12th game of the season.

Las Toreras faced adversity, playing in unfamiliar rainy conditions for the first time all season after a tough stretch of travel to and from Oregon following a 2-1 victory over Portland on Wednesday night.

"I'm proud of how we still compete through the adversity," head coach Greg LaPorte said. "We'll take the lessons, rest up and get back to our level quickly."

San Diego drew a goal back in the second half with a triad of substitute contributors. In the 70th minute junior midfielder Mikayla Abrenica whipped in a cross which senior defender Emma Gonzalez gathered, hit with the outside of her foot and junior mid Maquena O'Callaghan redirected into the net.

For O'Callaghan, it's her second career goal, making her the ninth different USD goal scorer this season and Gonzalez's assist in a second straight game is also her second of her career.

The Toreros were only outshot 8-9 but couldn't convert on the chances. The two sides also combined for two total saves, one apiece.
