CORVALLIS, Ore. — San Diego volleyball (20-4, 13-0 WCC) needed just three sets to extend its win streak on Thursday night, sweeping Oregon State (16-8, 10-4 WCC) by scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-14 to prevail for a 13th consecutive match and remain alone atop the West Coast Conference standings.
Nemo Beach totaled a team-high 14 kills while hitting .367 in the win, an effort that was aided by a match-high 33 assists from setter
Kylie Munday. Four blocks from Baylea Sparks and nine digs from
Olivia Bennett helped USD out-hit OSU .443 to .213.
The Toreros opened up the match on a 14-6 run and never looked back, eventually stretching their first-frame lead to 11 when Munday notched a kill on set point. Set two was more closely contested until Munday struck again to break an 11-11 deadlock with a solo block to put her team ahead for good.
San Diego closed set two on a 5-0 run courtesy of back-to-back service aces from
Reese Bates and two straight kills from Beach, then led from wire to wire in Thursday's third and final frame, securing the sweep after
Isabel Clark hammered four kills and Sparks chipped in a pair of late-game blocks. USD opened set three on a 4-1 surge and finished it just as strong, outscoring the Beavers 6-1 to close the contest.
