USD Runs Win Streak to 14 with 3-2 Victory at Portland

Well-rounded team effort helps Toreros prevail in hard-fought five-set decision at the Chiles Center on Saturday

PORTLAND, Ore. — San Diego volleyball withstood a five-set test from Portland on Saturday to extend its win streak to 14.

The Toreros (21-4, 14-0 WCC) defeated the Pilots (12-14, 7-8 WCC) by a 3-2 margin at the Chiles Center behind a match-high 19 kills, seven digs, five blocks (one solo), and three service aces from Isabel Clark.

After dropping set one by a narrow 26-24 margin, USD won back-to-back frames by scores of 25-17 and 25-15 in sets two and three. The Pilots extended the match by catching fire down the stretch in set four, but San Diego opened the fifth and final period on a 7-2 run and never looked back, prevailing 15-10 to preserve its perfect West Coast Conference record.

Nemo Beach complemented Clark's big afternoon with a 16-kill, seven-dig performance of her own. BayLea Sparks (.714) and Kali Engeman (.579) each totaled 11 kills and six total blocks, which were tied with one another for the match high. Setter Kylie Munday notched a double-double and paced the game with 46 assists, 12 digs, three kills, three service aces, and two blocks. Freshman defensive specialist Lauren Lynch had a team-high 13 digs and added two assists and a service ace.
