Sparks Helps Toreros Stretch Win Streak to Sixteen

San Diego stays perfect in West Coast Conference play with 3-1 victory at Santa Clara on Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. —Twelve kills from BayLea Sparks on Saturday afternoon led San Diego volleyball to its 16th consecutive win.

Sparks hit a strong .550 and added four blocks in what marked her most dominant offensive performance in a USD uniform thus far.

The Toreros (23-4, 16-0 WCC) — already having clinched the 2025 WCC Championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Thursday night — showed no signs of a letup on a quick turnaround to the Bay Area, beating Santa Clara (15-12, 10-6 WCC) by a score of 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 21-25, 25-15) to remain perfect in conference play.

A one-sided third set aside, San Diego led for nearly the entirety of Saturday's match, which featured only eight ties and five lead changes. USD was ahead by as many as 10 in the first set, six in the second, and 10 in the fourth, which it closed on a 7-1 run.

Seven Toreros tallied multiple kills in Saturday's win, including nine from Nemo Beach (who was a dig shy of a double-double with nine digs as well) and eight from Isabel Clark. Setter Kylie Munday notched her third straight double-double by posting 34 assists and 12 digs. Graduate transfer Kali Engeman had five blocks, anchoring a staunch San Diego defensive effort that saw it out-block SCU 10-3 and out-hit the Broncos .267 to .128.

NOTABLE
  • Olivia Bennett reached 1,000 career digs with her fourth dig on Saturday.
  • Kennedy Osunsanmi added three kills and four blocks.
  • Beach led the match with four service aces. Bennett chipped in two more.
