Toreros Prepare to Play at ASU Thanksgiving Tournament

USD will be competing against a pair of programs for the first time in team history

TEMPE, Ariz. – Following their impressive victory over New Mexico State earlier this week, the San Diego women's basketball team (2-4, 0-0 WCC) are back in action for a pair of games this holiday weekend in the Valley of the Sun.

The Toreros will be competing at Arizona State's Thanksgiving Tournament as they will be playing their first back-to-back games of the 2025-26 season.

USD's week begins on Saturday, November 28 at 3:00 p.m. PST when they will take on Little Rock (1-4, 0-0 OVC), and will be back at it the following day on November 29 at 10:00 a.m. PST against Southeast Missouri State (2-2, 0-0 OVC).

HOME COOKING

  • USD bounced back from their losing streak by taking down New Mexico State on Monday by a 57-48 final score at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
  • San Diego's freshmen excelled in the game as they combined to score 37 of the Toreros' points in the win to start the holiday week.
  • Olivia Owens had a standout performance in her team's victory as she scored 17 points, dished out six assists and collected four rebounds against the Aggies.
  • Ayla Williams made her first collegiate start and provided an immediate impact on the board as she grabbed 14 key rebounds and knocked down five of the six free throws she attempted in her team's victory.
  • Providing some key buckets off the bench as well, Ysabella Von Seipler scored 11 points and knocked down a game-sealing three as she reached double figures in scoring for the second time in her young college career.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS LITTLE ROCK AND SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE

  • San Diego will be taking on both the Trojans and Redhawks for the first time in each program's history.
  • USD will be playing their first two neutral site games of the season as the Toreros won't have another neutral site contest until the WCC Tournament in early March.

SCOUTING THE TROJANS

  • Little Rock enters Saturday afternoon's matchup with a 1-3 record on the young season as they defeated Central Baptist in their opener, but have come up short against Memphis, Arkansas State and Arkansas.
  • The Trojans offensively have been led by graduate student wing Jordan Holman as she's averaging 17.8 PPG this season and has been great at getting to the free throw line as she's averaging more than six attempts per game.
  • As a team, Little Rock has struggled to defend the free throw line early in the season as opposing teams are shooting just under 40% from beyond the arc in the 2025-26 campaign.
  • USD will be competing against Little Rock in the second half of a back-to-back for the Trojans as they come up short against tournament host Arizona State on Friday afternoon.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS

  • Southeast Missouri State enters play this weekend with a 2-2 overall record to start the season with victories over Evansville and Wichita State, while coming up short against both Illinois and Missouri State.
  • Pacing the Redhawks' offense to start the year, graduate student guard Lexi McCully leads SEMO in scoring as she's averaging 10.1 PPG and is shooting 42% from the field and 35% from three-point range.
  • San Diego will look to take advantage on the glass against SEMO as the Redhawks have out-rebounded by an average of nine boards per game, and the Toreros have excelled on the offensive glass all season.
