Toreros Drop Game Two to No. 23 TCU

Horned Frogs pull away late to deal USD second straight loss at Fowler Park

SAN DIEGO — San Diego baseball (0-2, 0-0 WCC) on Saturday night dropped a 9-2 decision to No. 23 TCU (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) at Fowler Park.

After trailing all evening, the Toreros got back within two runs in the bottom of the seventh when a RBI single from Jack Gurevitch cut the deficit to just two, but the Horned Frogs pulled away with six runs across the eighth and ninth frames to secure the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A pair of homers from TCU in the first and fifth innings gave the visitors an early 3-0 lead.
  • Gurevitch got the Toreros on the board in the seventh with an RBI single that sent Cade Martinez home to cut the TCU advantage to 3-1.
  • The Horned Frogs scored six times in the eighth and ninth innings, extending their lead with an RBI groundout, an RBI single, and a grand slam.
  • Freshman outfielder Rex Watson reached on an infield single in the bottom of the ninth and later came around to score on a TCU error to make it 9-2, but San Diego got no closer.
ON THE MOUND
  • Logan Reddemann threw five solid innings for USD, striking out eight while giving up three earned runs on just three hits in his 2025 debut on the mound.
  • Tristan LaMaison entered in relief of Reddemann in the sixth inning and tossed a pair of scoreless frames to keep the Toreros in the game, racking up five strikeouts on just one hit.
  • Hayden Cody made his USD debut in the eighth inning and allowed one run, striking out one while giving up one hit.
TORERO TIDBITS
  • Cody, Watson, AJ Beltre, and Connor Meidroth all made their Torero debuts on Saturday night. For Watson and Beltre, it was also their first college appearance.

  • Reddemann and LaMaison combined for 13 strikeouts and one walk through Saturday evening's first seven innings.
