Tadlock's Masterpiece Leads Toreros Over CBU in Rubber Game

RIVERSIDE – Wrapping up the second full week of the season, the San Diego softball team (4-6, 0-0 WCC) picked up a gritty, 2-1 10-inning victory on Sunday afternoon over California Baptist (5-6, 0-0 WAC) at John C. Funk Stadium.

Kelsey Tadlock continued her stellar start to the season by throwing a complete game and allowing just one run while striking out a career-high nine hitters on Sunday.

Hailey Mulligan came through for her squad with an RBI ground out in the 10th to score Taylor Johnson as the go-ahead run in Riverside.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Getting to work early at the plate, Michelle Delgado delivered a one-out single to left field and Kaitlyn Wynia followed with an infield single of her own to put USD in business early. EJ Joyner would deliver the first blow of the game with an RBI single down the right field line as the Toreros led 1-0 early.
  • After CBU got their lead-off runner on to start their half of the first, Tadlock settled in nicely and retired the next three she faced to keep the Lancers scoreless through one inning of play.
  • California Baptist would go on to even the game one inning later as they drew a bases loaded walk, but the Toreros limited the damage to keep it at one-all heading to the third inning.
  • Joyner continued her strong start to the season at the plate with a two-out double in the top of the third but she was left stranded to keep the game tied.
  • Tadlock continued her excellent start by striking out the side in order in the bottom of the third.
  • Alyssa Hernandez hitting lead-off for the first time in 2025 came through with a one out opposite single in the fifth for another San Diego base hit but couldn't come across to score.
  • Both offenses stayed silent through the first seven innings as Tadlock stranded the winning run on third base by getting a pop out to second to force extra innings.
  • The game would remain locked at one until the top of the 10th as Tele Jennings dropped down a perfect sacrifice bunt to get Johnson to third base. Mulligan then grounded a ball to the second baseman that took the out at first herself allowing Johnson to sprint home and make it 2-1 Toreros.
  • Heading back to the circle looking to slam the door, Tadlock retired the three Lancers hitters in order to help her team take the weekend road series in Riverside.

TORERO TIDBITS

  • Tadlock had a career afternoon in the circle tossing all 10 innings with six hits allowed, one earned run, nine strikeouts and 138 total pitches against CBU on Sunday.
  • Picking up another multi-hit game, Wynia went 2-for-4 while hitting third in San Diego's batting order.
  • Joyner had another nice game in the middle of USD's order as she went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the rubber game against California Baptist.
