CORVALLIS, Ore. – Wrapping up the second to last week of the regular season, the San Diego women's basketball team (6-21, 2-16 WCC) battled hard but came up short to the Oregon State Beavers (15-14, 11-7) on Saturday afternoon by a 64-51 final score at Gill Coliseum.

Truitt Reilly had a strong afternoon playing back in her home state as she totaled 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds against the Beavers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After the Beavers scored the first three points of the game at the free throw line, the Toreros responded by forcing a steal and Kylie Horstmeyer put home a layup off the glass to make it a 3-2 game.
  • Just ahead of the media timeout, Ava Ranson took an outlet pass and drove down the floor before stopping at the free throw line and connecting on a mid-range jumper as the Toreros trailed 9-8.
  • Scoring USD's final points of the quarter, Reilly knocked down a turnaround jump shot to even the game at 17-all before OSU would score just ahead of the buzzer to take a two point lead.
  • Coming out strong to start the new period, Horstmeyer banked in a long two in the corner to even the game at 19 following a tremendous pass from Jayden Rhodes.
  • The San Diego defense held strong throughout the quarter as Reilly would make two more shots in the paint to grow the Torero lead to 26-21 and force the Beavers into a timeout.
  • Horstmeyer would score the Toreros' final bucket of the half by making another mid-range shot following an assist from Dresha Moore as USD enjoyed 32-26 advantage heading into the locker room.
  • Oregon State came out strong to start the second half as they took a one point lead before USD responded with an and-one from Reilly that helped the Toreros regain the lead at 35-33.
  • Going back-and-forth midway through the quarter, Moore came away with a steal and then took it all the way to the other end for a layup that evened the game at 37-all.
  • Hallie Rhodes would knock down a pair of free throws on USD's final possession to get the lead down to seven at 49-42 heading into the final quarter.
  • Continuing to battle, Reilly continued her big game by sneaking a layup over the hands of the tall Oregon State front court to make it a five point game.
  • After OSU built their lead back up to 10, Horstmeyer would come through once again for her squad by making another pull up jump shot as USD trailed 55-47.
  • The Beavers would go on to control the last part of the game as they picked up the 63-51 victory on their home floor.
