ST. GEORGE, Utah – Wrapping up another busy weekend, the San Diego softball team (5-11, 0-0 WCC) came up short to the Boise State Broncos (12-3, 0-0 MWC) on Sunday morning by a 10-4 final score at Karl Brooks Field.
Taylor Johnson continued her hot hitting by launching a three-run home run for her second round-tripper of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Boise State would get the scoring started on Sunday afternoon by scratching across a run in the top of the first.
- USD didn't wait long to respond as Carly Ruiz singled and Kaitlyn Wynia worked a walk to set up Johnson with ducks on the pond. She would go on to crush a 1-2 pitch well over the wall in center field that gave San Diego a 3-1 lead at the end of the first.
- The Broncos would scratch across an additional run in the top of the second top make it a 3-2 Torero advantage.
- Building on their lead early, Hailey Mulligan led off the inning with a double down the left field line and then came around to score on an Alyssa Hernandez sacrifice fly to bring the USD lead back up to two.
- Boise State would go on to score three times in the fourth, two in the fifth, once in the sixth and two more in the seventh as they earned a 10-4 victory in St. George.
TORERO TIDBITS
- Ruiz put together a strong game in the lead off spot as she went 3-for-4 with a run scored against the Broncos on Sunday.
- Johnson showed off her power in St. George as she belted her second home run of the season going 1-for-4 with three runs driven in.
- Mulligan had a nice day at the dish as well going 1-for-2 with a double, walk and run scored to wrap up the third weekend of the season.
