SAN DIEGO – Set to compete on their home floor for the first time in February, the San Diego women's basketball team (4-17, 0-12 WCC) is back at the Jenny Craig Pavilion for a pair of games this week.
The Toreros will first host the Portland Pilots on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6:00 p.m., and will then turn around to face the Oregon State Beavers on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2:00 p.m.
Thursday's game will be the program's Empowering Black Legacy Celebration, and on Saturday the team will be celebrating Play4Kay as well as National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Toreros are back on their home floor after a narrow road loss to Washington State last Saturday by a 67-60 final score in Pullman.
- Truitt Reilly had a tremendous game as she recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds against the Cougars.
- Ava Ranson also had a pair of strong scoring games in the Pacific Northwest as she scored 10 against Gonzaga before pouring in 13 points against Washington State to wrap up the trip.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. PORTLAND
- Thursday night's matchup with the Pilots will be the 84th all-time meeting between the two schools as San Diego leads the series 47-36 entering the 2024-25 season.
- Portland won both games last season as they bested the Toreros at home on Jan. 11, 2024 by a 65-54 margin, and then went on the road and picked up a 64-59 victory at Jenny Craig Pavilion on Jan. 27, 2024.
- Kasey Neubert was a key player for the Toreros in both meetings against the Pilots last season as she averaged 9.5 PPG and 10 rebounds in both games against Portland.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. OREGON STATE
- Saturday afternoon's game against the Beavers will be the sixth all-time matchup between the programs as USD leads the overall series 3-2.
- It has been 28 years since the last time the Toreros and Beavers faced off as San Diego earned a 57-54 home victory at the USD Sports Center on Dec. 28, 1996.
- This weekend's game will be just the fourth ever time OSU has played the Toreros in San Diego with USD winning two of the three previous matchups.
SCOUTING THE PILOTS
- Portland has had a tremendous season with a 20-3 overall mark as they went 11-0 in non-conference action with their lone losses coming against Oregon State and Gonzaga twice.
- The Pilots have had a dynamic scoring punch from both Emme Shearer and Maisie Burnham as they're both averaging more than 16 PPG this season on highly-efficient shooting percentages.
- USD will have their hands full trying to deal with Portland's high-powered offense as the Pilots lead the WCC in points per game at 76.8, while also leading the league in average point differential at +14.4.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
- Oregon State enters this week with an 11-13 record for the season and a 7-6 overall mark in WCC play. The Beavers are riding high after sweeping Pepperdine and Saint Mary's last week in Corvallis.
- The Toreros will have their hands full working to slow down senior forward Kelsey Rees who's leading the Beavers by averaging 12.9 PPG and 7.7 rebounds in OSU's front court.
- As a team, Oregon State has thrived on the defensive end of the floor as they have allowed the second fewest points per game in the WCC with their opponents averaging just 64 PPG.
