San Diego Drops Game One at No. 8 Oregon State

Toreros dealt 11-3 loss by Beavers on Friday evening in Corvallis

CORVALLIS, Ore. — A trio of late-game runs headlined San Diego baseball's efforts on Friday evening as it opened its three-game series at Goss Stadium with a 11-3 loss to No. 8 Oregon State.

With OSU (8-3) in front by a 6-0 margin, Connor Meidroth got the Toreros (2-11, 0-0 WCC) on the board with an RBI single in the top of the seventh. Aden Howard followed with a sacrifice fly, and USD had cut the deficit to 6-2.

After the Beavers responded with a run in the bottom half of the frame, USD scored one last time on an opposite-field RBI single from Jayden Lobliner to make it 7-3, but got no closer.

Redshirt freshman right-hander Cal Scolari (1-2) was saddled with the loss after surrendering four runs, walking four, and striking out four across 3.2 innings. Graduate transfer Hayden Cody turned in the Toreros' best appearance out of the bullpen, tossing 1.1 perfect frames as he stranded a pair of runners to close the book on Scolari's outing.

His ensuing 1-2-3 fifth joined Scolari's 1-2-3 opening frame as the only two innings in which Oregon State did not score in game one.
