SAN DIEGO — No.7 San Diego men's tennis continued its dominance on Friday morning as it took down crosstown rival UC San Diego in commanding fashion, defeating the Tritons 4-0 as it advanced to the second round of the Ed Collins Invitational. 

San Diego got out in front early, snatching the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 victories from Nikhil Niranjan and Neo Niedner on court three, and Stian Klaassen and Savriyan Danilov on court one. Iiro Vasa and Blake Kasday were ahead by a 4-3 margin in number two doubles before the match was suspended. 

The Toreros continued rolling right into singles, dropping only one of six first sets. Kasday made quick work of his opponent in his 2024-25 singles debut, winning number six singles 6-0, and 6-2 to make it 2-0 in favor of USD early. 

Klaassen was next to finish for San Diego as he cruised on court three, winning 6-4 and 6-2 to push the lead to three. Vasa then sealed the deal for the Toreros in number two singles to clinch the match, beating his opponent 7-5 and 6-4. 

The remaining three matches on courts one, five, and six, were all cut short when USD clinched the match. Danilov was heading to a third set in number one singles after dropping set one and winning set two, Niedner was locked at 5-5 in the second set in number four singles, and Niranjan was down 2-0 in set three in number five singles. 

The Toreros will continue play in the Ed Collins Invitational tomorrow afternoon, when they face Old Dominion at 11 a.m. PST.
