McKenna Braegelmann and Joecellia Roberts Sweep Weekly WCC Awards

SAN DIEGO – After a historic weekend that saw the San Diego softball team take two of three games at LMU, graduate student pitcher McKenna Braegelmann and senior utility player Joecellia Roberts were named the WCC's Pitcher and Player of the Week as the Toreros swept the weekly awards for the second time this season.

Braegelmann, put her team on her back to help take down the Lions in the second and third games of the weekend series as she tossed a pair of complete game victories in Los Angeles. Adding her name to the program's record book, Braegelmann tossed the seventh no-hitter in USD softball history as she threw six scoreless frames and recorded four strikeouts in the Toreros' 9-0 six inning run-rule victory over the Lions.

McKenna wasn't done putting on a show over the weekend as she got the start on Sunday afternoon as well and went the distance throwing seven innings and allowing just five hits and three earned runs in San Diego's 6-4 series clinching victory at LMU. In total, Bragelmann completed 13 innings of work and posted a 1.62 ERA and held the Lions hitting to a microscopic .116 batting average.

This week marks the second time Braegelmann has earned the conference's pitcher of the week award in her USD career as she also received the recognition on February 19, 2024 after throwing a one-hit shutout in a victory over Southern Utah.

Roberts, was a force at the plate all weekend in Los Angeles as she posted a .571/.667/1.429 slash line to help San Diego pick up their first conference series of the season. She got her weekend started with a big two-run triple down the right field line in the series opening loss and then went 1-for-3 in Saturday's game two run-rule victory.

Joecellia saved her best for the series finale as she went 2-for-3 with a game-tying solo home run, a double and a walk to help the Toreros earn the 6-4 victory. Defensively, Roberts got the start in right field for all three games this weekend and is now tied for second on the Torero roster with two home runs during the 2025 campaign.

Roberts earned her second career player of the week honor this week as she also was selected on March 27, 2023 after collecting a trio of hits and RBI in a doubleheader sweep over St. Thomas.

Braegelmann and Roberts are the third and fourth Toreros to earn the conference's nod in 2025 as player and pitcher of the week as Taylor Johnson and Kelsey Tadlock were picked back on March 10.
